From a studio for manufacturing screws to a modern manufacturer of precision turned parts

In 1937, Werner and Anna Aeschlimann-Wolf founded a studio for manufacturing screws in Lüsslingen. Those times were actually very difficult to start with your own business and when World war II broke out, all the machines were stopped for a whole year due to active military service. Slowly success began to show and with great care and foresight, the owner invested his modest means in modern machinery. In 1952 the workshop was enlarged for a first time. At that time, the manufacturing program con-sisted mainly of watch screws and was expanded gradually to include parts for the appliance industry after the two sons Hansueli and Peter Aeschlimann entered their father’s business. In 1958 the factory was enlarged for a second time. All the old machinery was removed and the plant was reduced to half it’s size, but as a consequence, consisted only of the most modern automats. In the sixties it became more and more difficult to find new employees, consequently the direction was focused on mechanisation and automatisation of the production. Thus the problem could be solved. Devices for automatic feeding were bought and all this - in connection with an increasing number of automatic lathes leant in the end to an acute lack of space. This and reasons of rationalisation as well as the wish to guarantee an appropriate flow of goods made the board of directors decide on construct a new building at a different location in Lüsslingen. In summer 1971 the new facilities were ready. The steady economical growth, a careful and future orientated policy of investment and last but not least a high quality standard brought for the company a continuous rise of prosperity in the following years. To be able to meet the growing claims and requirements the production rooms were doubled in 1987. As in 1988 the first CNC-automat was set into operation, high-tech had definitely entered the enterprise, which by then had already had an excellent reputation on highly precise turned parts for quite some time. Today Aeschlimann Ltd has at it’s disposal, beside the traditional Swiss type automatic lathes, the multispindle auto-matic lathes and the hydromat rotary transfer machines, a division of CNC-automates, which contains about 70 different machines and machining centers. In these difficult times, the modern plant gives the company the possibility to stand firmly on both legs and to look into an interesting and challenging future where the field of industrial production is concerned.

To success with quality

With a consequent product policy - the company produces mostly high specifical rotation symmetric precise turned parts up to diameters of max. 70 mm -, built up by years of hard work and through an unbelievably high standard of quality the company has won a position in national and international markets, which especially now, despite receding conjuncture and aggravated fight for prices, proves extremely positive. Outward signs of this fact are a 140 fully employed people and a satisfactory stock of orders. In recent years the management has set under their motto ″to act instead of to react″ great value and developing self-responsibility of each employee. Personal initiative of the employees has been encouraged by the circumstance that each through appropriate education and information knows, why the issue of production is like the one he programs on his machine. This has been achieved through a solid and fundamental schooling of all employees and through permanent internal education on specific subjects and themes, like communication, or-ganisation, independent working, teamwork and so on. These measures along with a profit sharing policy in which for example yearly the company divides one third of the profit to the employees, are the main reasons for the realisation of a ″self-responsible production of parts″, as the secret for the high quality of standard is called. As a result, very demanding orders placed by the European electronic and automobil industry, in which a good half of the production is exported can be fulfilled to the full satisfaction of our clients. Of course a lot of these principles are still valid in the original field of production, watch screws, in which the company is still very acitve and includes a considerable part of it’s turnover. Here the company is one of the few remaining external producers for practically the whole watch industry. In the middle of 1994 the present proprietors made the demanding step of passing on the management of the successful family business to the third generation. At the end of 1994 the successors founded Aeschlimann Technologie AG. Due to the outsourcing of various logistic services it suceeded in a promising and smooth hand-over. At the end of 1995 it was possible to move into a new production hall in Lüsslingen with an additional 1500 m2 production area after a construction time of only 10 months. Shortterm operational procedure und the materiel flow improved. The entreprise still has further reserves for the long run. In June 2003 the quality management system became certified by, „SQS” and meets therefore the international demands of ISO/TS16949:2002/ISO9001:2000. In january 2004, we were able to buy a large property right next door from the Bati Group. For us a great chance and oppurtunity to get more space for several projects. After only 3 weeks of rebuilding the location we were able to run new machines in the building. Modern officespace and a new canteen for our employees and garagespace for our trucks are also available. With the additional buy of the building site neighbouring our new property and the manufacturing plant of PREVIS, we finally are sure to have enough space for a growth within the next few years. 2006/07 Aeschlimann built a new modern production facility covering 1500m2.
